In conversation with Sophia in Sicily
Photography by Lauren Schulz
Sicily has a way of pulling you in and refusing to let go. Sophia Campagna went there with a bag full of AOCO and came back with a lot to say. Here’s what she wore, where she went, and what she’d do again in a heartbeat.
You’ve just come back from Sicily, and we need to know everything. What was the trip like?
It’s one of those trips that’s hard to put into words. Sicily has this incredible energy - chaotic, warm, and beautiful all at once. Taormina especially felt like stepping into a whole different world. Sicily is the kind of place where you lose track of time over a glass of wine or a bowl of pasta - and you’re perfectly okay with that.
Let’s talk packing - what were your top AOCO picks for this trip?
Super Soft Organic Cotton Leggings - An absolute non-negotiable for long-haul travel, and a strong pick if you’re after a pair of women’s black leggings that you can wear on repeat. They’re breathable, super comfortable, and also incredibly flattering! I wore these on the flight out and couldn’t imagine anything better.
French Terry Wide Leg Pants - My second travel-day option when I wanted something with a more relaxed look. These wide leg pants has the perfect balance between relaxed and considered, exactly what you’d want while on the move.
Capri Halter Cross Back Dress - One of the best dresses to wear on vacation, and the definition of day-to-night versatility. I wore it to lunch overlooking the coastline and kept it on through dinner.
Baby Tee and Maxi Skirt - This piece is perfect for those transit days. Super lightweight, doesn’t crease, and was my go-to for evenings when I wanted to feel a little more dressed up without the extra effort.
Soft Rib Wide Leg Pants - Genuinely one of the most versatile pieces in my bag, and proof that good travel clothes don’t need to be complicated. I wore them while exploring the streets of Taormina, and I even threw them over my bikini on a beach day!
"Each piece felt buttery soft and incredibly lightweight, exactly what you want when you're moving between countries. The cuts are flattering, and everything just goes together."
Any styling notes? Things you discovered about the pieces once you were actually there?
The thing that struck me most was how easily everything layered. I wasn’t overthinking outfits - I’d just reach for something and it would work. There’s something about the fabrics too. Everything is so soft and breathable that you don’t feel uncomfortable even on the hottest of days.
We need your Sicily recommendations. Where do we eat?
Hands down, Casa Niclodi in Taormina. It’s a small, family-run restaurant with the most authentic Italian food I’ve ever had. The service was absolutely amazing, and the atmosphere was warm and cosy. It’s the perfect place to relax, enjoy a glass of wine and a big bowl of pasta!
Best beach?
Mazzarò beach in Taormina was something else. Crystal clear water, beautiful beach clubs, and a gorgeous backdrop of the town above. Just one tip; pack beach shoes. The shore is very rocky and you’ll thank yourself later.
While you’re there: The bay is a great place for boat excursions along the coastline, with stops at Isola Bella and the Grotta Azzura (Blue Cave). The rocky outcrops also make it a brilliant spot for snorkeling if you’re looking to get more than your feet wet.
Where would you go for a night out?
Morgana lounge bar. It starts out as a really cool cocktail bar (great atmosphere, great drinks) and then slowly turns into a bit of a dance party as the night goes on. The perfect way to end a day in Taormina.
